Tree and Shrub Care Program

Landscape plants, unlike lawns, mature slowly, often over the course of many years. Due to this difference, damage or malnutrition can sometimes take a growing season or more to correct. For this reason it is best to treat landscapes proactively to ensure that they will grow to their full potential.

By combining targeted pest management with optimally timed nutrient supplements we will ensure that damage from pests is minimized and plants achieve their full beauty. For best results year round we recommend the following program:

Round 1:

Dormant Oil:
Dormant horticultural Oil is applied to foliar and other plant surfaces. This will kill many overwintering insects while neutralizing many eggs that would otherwise hatch the following season. This is one of the only ways to prevent and treat existing scale insect problems.

Round 2:

Spring Fertilization:
Our Horticulturalist will apply balanced nutrient supplements to aid in the growth and color of your landscape plants. Spring fertilization will give the plants the nutrients necessary to make the most of our short spring before the heat of summer arrives. This is especially beneficial for summer blooming plants like Crepe Myrtles.

Round 3:

Early Season Insect and Disease Control:
Insects and diseases are like weeds. Different species will take advantage of different conditions. We will apply the appropriate control measures to ensure your plants look their best. Early application will keep infestations from becoming much more difficult to control.

Round 4:

Mid Season Insect and Disease Control:
As temperatures rise insect and disease pressure increases. We will adjust our control measures as necessary to keep your plants looking great.

Round 5:

Late Season Insect and Disease Control:
As the season winds down we will minimize late emerging pests and keep them from laying eggs that would cause damage down the road.

Round 6:

Fall Fertilization:
Call it winterizer if you like. Fall is the best time to fertilize landscape plants. Heavier rates will be stored in the roots for strength during the cold of winter. This will also help plants to recover from the long and stressful summer. It is also especially beneficial for spring flowering plants like azaleas.
