3 Tips to Get Your Lawn Ready for Spring Lawn Care

Spring has officially sprung here in Atlanta. You can tell because the flowers and trees are blooming, the sun is shining, and absolutely everything is covered in a dusty layer of yellow pollen. As annoying as those springtime allergies may be, there’s no denying that it’s one of the prettiest times of the year. But is your lawn looking as beautiful as the spring flowers? If you want a lush, green lawn this spring and summer, you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading to learn how to get your lawn ready for spring lawn care. You can also give us a call at 770-923-0387 or contact us online to get an estimate on our Atlanta lawn care services.

Prepare for Spring with These Lawn Care Tips

Do some spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning isn’t just for inside your home! To achieve a beautiful lawn, it’s important to start with a clean foundation. That means getting rid of leaves, branches, twigs, and all the other yard debris that accumulated during the winter. Leaving dead organic material laying around on your lawn is a recipe for disease and infestation, especially as the humidity continues to rise.

Get in a good mowing routine.

Mowing your lawn is much more than “just for looks.” It actually has a big impact on the overall health of your lawn, so it’s important to get into a good lawn mowing routine starting now and continuing through the summer. While every lawn has unique factors to keep in mind (grass species, sun exposure, drainage, etc.), weekly mowing is typically the best frequency for Atlanta lawns. At the fastest-growing times, like after heavy rainfall, you may even want to mow more than once a week. Just remember that you never want to cut more than one third of the height at a time, so if you miss a week, you might need to mow higher once and then lower a couple of days later. (Check out our past blog posts for more lawn mowing tips.)

Give your grass room to breathe.

Grass needs air circulation to breathe, allowing it to take in carbon dioxide from both the air and the soil. Typically, atmospheric air exposure isn’t a problem, but many homeowners don’t realize that their lawns are compacted and full of thatch, preventing grass from getting enough CO2 from the soil. The remedy is core aeration, which basically removes cores (or plugs) of earth from your lawn to allow for more air circulation. Lawn aeration also allows for more water and nutrients to reach the roots.

Once your lawn is cleaned, cut, and cored, you’re set up well for a healthy growing season, especially if you also schedule lawn fertilization and weed control with Simply Green. Our residential lawn care services in and around Atlanta make it easy for you to enjoy the beautiful lawn you’ve always wanted.

Have used Simply Green for over a year now for weed control & fertilization. Their service & products have helped improve the appearance & health of my grass in this short time. Taffari has been the technician the last few visits and he is great - super knowledgeable & able to answer my questions. On the last visit Taffari had the service manager reach out on a concern and it was addressed & resolved the same day.
